How Does Lane Keep Assist Work?

Before learning how the Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) works, you should learn what it is. This feature — which is a part of the Honda Sensing® system offered in our new Honda models — alerts you if you begin to drift from your lane, and works with other Honda Sensing® systems to help you and your passengers stay safe on Sparta Twp roads. Want to know more? Take a look below or contact our team at Sussex Honda to schedule a test drive and experience this impressive feature in person!

How Does Lane Keep Assist Work?

So how does lane keep assist work? The Lane Keeping Assist System scans road markings, and uses visual and tactile alerts to notify you if you begin to drift from your lane without signaling. This will show up as a Lane Departure warning in the multi-information display, and the steering wheel will vibrate to get your attention so you can take corrective action. Not only that but the LKAS can also provide steering input to help the car stay centered until you take action.

Can I Turn Lane Keep Assist Off?

If you’re not interested in the LKAS, then you are able to turn it off. And this does apply to other Honda Sensing® driver assists as well. Here’s how:

  • Press the MAIN button on the steering wheel until you see LKAS on the multi-information display
  • Press LKAS
  • You’ll see lane outlines on the display (dotted lines turn solid when the system is ready)
  • Press the MAIN or LKAS button to turn off the system

What is Honda Sensing®?

Honda Sensing® is a suite of advanced safety and driver assist systems that are standard or available on most new Honda vehicles. Along with Lane Keeping Assist, Honda Sensing® also includes:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
  • Honda LaneWatch
  • Blind Spot Information System
  • Cross-Traffic Monitor
  • Auto High-Beam Headlights

Lane Keeping Assist System is one of the features you’ll find as part of Honda Sensing®, but not Toyota Safety Sense. TSS offers Lane Departure Alert, but it doesn’t apply steering torque to help keep your car centered.
