2017 Honda Clarity FVC

The first of the Honda Clarity family to arrive in the automotive marketplace is the 2017 Honda Clarity FVC, a hydrogen-powered model that can run for 366 miles on a single tank of high-pressure hydrogen. Currently, hydrogen-refueling stations are located near Los Angeles and San Francisco, but as this model is offered elsewhere, there will certainly be more stations available to refuel. In terms of efficiency, you can expect the Clarity FVC to deliver 69 MPGe in the city and 67 MPGe on the highway¹.

This model improves upon the former generation by ensuring seating for five people, and its driving range has been significantly extended. Otherwise, you can expect many of the same creature comforts and electronics that you’ll find in other new Honda vehicles, like an 8-inch touchscreen and the Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance features. Perhaps most noteworthy is that the HondaLink smartphone app provides access to important information, like where hydrogen stations are located, what your remaining range is, and how much hydrogen you have left in the vehicle.

What to Expect

Honda recently introduced the first in its lineup of plug-in hybrid and battery-electric models, the 2017 Honda Clarity FCV, which is available for lease currently in California. That means you can choose the powertrain that suits your needs, and you won’t have to compromise on interior space like many models force you to do with clunky electric batteries.

Lease Information

Currently, Honda leases the 2017 Honda Clarity FVC for $369 each month, along with free hydrogen refills up to $15,000 over the course of a three-year lease². A kilogram of hydrogen can cost anywhere from $8 to $12, so this perk is definitely noteworthy. Plus, Honda sets you up with 21 days of a free luxury car rentals during your lease period when you need to drive in areas there aren’t public hydrogen-fueling stations.
